Baby it’s cold outside

I have been told by several people that i need to update this blog more often so here i am…updating.  A lot has been happening since my last entry.  I got back for ACL and it was amazing.  Seeing the likes of Alison Krauss and Robert Plant, The Swell Season and The Raconteurs.  I also got to hang out with my good friend Jeff Capps at the Coyote Ugly Bar in downtown Austin.  I must say that it did not live up to its reputation.

The weather continues to put me in a good mood.  I love wearing layers and scarves and in fact i have the nick-name “scarves” at work. And as an added bonus the NC State Fair is in town!  Funnel Cakes are a God send.  If you have never had a funnel cake there is something fundamentally wrong with your soul.

There has also been quite a bit of great new music in the past few weeks.  Copeland”s “You are My Sunshine” Ryan Adams and the Cardinals, Travis, Ray Lamontagne, Rachel Yamagata and Bloc Party.  And all of them are great albums.  I recommend that you buy/torrent all of them!  And speaking of music, i just got done playing a House Show with Alisa Turner and it was awesome.  We ate pancakes, had fun hanging out and playing new songs.  This has all inspired me to write, write and write some more, so i am going to be making a 4-6 song ep soon.  I’m still working on the theme of it and all that but i am excite!

Finally, as the election season is coming to a close i feel the need to share a couple of things with all willing to listen.  I would never presume to tell you who to vote for or anything like that.  I am a firm believer in discovering the true facts about each candidate.  There are several things about both McCain and Obama i do not like but here is one thing that has disturbed me.  Obama will not produce his birth certificate to indeed prove he is a US citizen and that bothers me along with his socialist tendencies.  But i encourage you all to get out and vote and if you don’t, you have no right to complain.

Until next time…

Austin, Golf, Music and Traveling

Now although the weather here in Texas isn’t the fall weather i was growing accustomed in Raleigh, Austin is a pretty cool place.  I arrived yesterday morning after an interesting flight over.  Have you ever been on a flight where the plane is not that full thus leaving a plethora of open seats?  Well that was the case yesterday for me.  I was one of the last people on the plane and found my seat in the 3rd row.  But let me back up a bit if i may to provide a little context to the story.  I flew Southwest and if you have ever flown Southwest you are familiar with their cattle call way of boarding.  No assigned seats, just three seats on either side and you pick once you board.  So i took my seat on the aisle in the same row as a gentleman who was sitting next to the window thus leaving an open seat between us.  An acceptable distance between two strangers on a long, uncrowded flight.  But alas, the last woman to board the plane decided to ignore the vacant rows and seats directly behind me and the stranger next to the window and ask to sit in the seat that once separated us.  There was a moment of eye contact between me, the stranger and the flight attendant in which we were all befuddled as to why she, a larger woman, choose to cramp herself in between us disregarding the open rows behind us.  So i got up to let her into the seat she so coveted and moved my belongings to one of the open rows i spoke of.  It all worked out fine since i got to spread my legs and enjoy the rest of my trip.

The festival has not started yet but i played some golf yesterday with my uncle and had dinner at a local joint called the Hula Hut.  And if you are ever in the Austin area you must go to this establishment.  It was nothing short of amazing mexican food.  Today i am slated to play some more golf and then tonight attending a pre-festival party for a state senator featuring the great 90’s band Blues Traveler.

A Welcome…to fall

I have never been a big blogger but I decided that I would give it a try anyway.  So here we are, September 22nd, 2008.  The weather has tuned to cool and glorious time to be outside.  I have noticed that over the course of my life I become exceedingly more cheery when fall comes around.  There is something about pumpkins, apples, leaves on the ground, football and scarves that resonates with me.  For instance, i was driving today with the windows down listening to the new Kings of Leon album, and the combination of music, open air driving and the smell of fall that causes spontaneous grinning.  I maintain that the season of fall is God’s favorite season.  So needless to say i am enjoying the weather and promise for more days like this one.

On a separate note….if you were not planing on getting the new Kings of Leon album “Only By The Night” you must reconsider. It’s very good.  Also, the new season of Hero’s began tonight and so far pretty freakin cool.  I am only half way through the 2 hour premiere but it is looking promising.

That’s all i got for now so until later peace and love.
